C. R. Bard Phase I

Another repeat customer, C.R. Bard owns a large medical manufacturing and distribution center in Covington, GA.  One of their parking lots and main drives was suffering from some severe deterioration, as well as alligator cracking throughout.  In this scope of work we excavated, compacted the base material and installed 3 inches of 19 mm binder asphalt to approx. 300 square yards of severely failed asphalt.  All edges were edge milled down approximately 2 – 0 inches, 4 - 6 feet out from all curb lines and concrete aprons. The lot was then cleaned. This work was done on a Friday, and our crews were finished with this work by 2:00 p.m.  The following day, we paved approximately 2,600 square yards of parking lot with 1 inch (compacted) of Perma-Flex asphalt, and 1 inch (compacted) 9 mm asphalt topping.  Also an additional 870 square yards of main drive was paved with 1.5 inches (compacted) of Perma-Flex, and 1 inch (compacted) asphalt topping.  With the Perma-Flex Paving system, we can control the depth of the Perma-Flex layer, increasing the thickness for pavement that receives heavier traffic loads, such as truck courts, truck entrances, etc.   Our crews completed all of this paving by 1:00 p.m. the same day. The lot was then striped on Sunday.

Please observe in the sequence of pictures the number of rollers we use on a job of this nature.  The compaction process in a paving job is paramount, and it is important to choose a contractor who uses the right type of rollers on the job, to achieve optimal compaction and smoothness of the pavement. In many of the picture sequences, one can see 3 rollers in one shot during the compaction process.  Also important is the manpower that the contractor brings to the job.  On this particular project, we had 11 men working on the paving crew; between paving operators, shovel men, rake men, men directing traffic, and monitoring trucks hauling material.  This number does not include the 11 trucks that we had hauling material.  For this reason, we were able to complete the job by 1:00 p.m., then perform clean-up, and of course, complete the job according to specifications with a very high quality final result.
